India added a prestigious trophy to their cabinet when they triumphed over New Zealand in the finals of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 held at the Dubai international Cricket Stadium, India’s nerves were calm as they clinched the title by four wickets.
India showed great resilience throughout the tournament, they were undefeated in their group, showing a fine display while securing wins over Bangladesh, New Zealand and Pakistan. Kohli’s classic knock against Australia in the semi finals propelled India towards their rematch against New Zealand in the finals.
Unlike India, New Zealand had to show great consistency to secure a shot at the major ICC title. They managed to book their spot into the semi finals before dismantling South Africa, earning New Zealand a place in the finals.
India had the option of bowling first or bat first, and New Zealand kept on performing steadily to set a base of 252. Any nerves India’s spinners felt in the start were gone for middle overs as they put the team under great pressure while protecting the scoring.
India’s chase was guided by their captain Rohit Sharma, whose important 76 runs kept the innings together. There were some struggles in the mid order, particularly with the New Zealand spinners, but KL Rahul’s composed effort of 34 not out took the Men in Blue over the line with nine balls in hand.
Rohit Sharma – He won Player of the Match award for his stylish innings.
Rachin Ravindra – Due to his all-round performances during the tournament, won player of the tournament.
Kuldeep Yadav & Varun Chakravarthy – Middle over specialists who transformed the game with phenomenal bowling spells.
This makes it India’s third Champions Trophy title, adding to their already bulging trophy cabinet in the 50 over format. India’s off-field challenges, including the fact that the boys had to play all their matches in Dubai, did not distract from the performing focal point, and the team delivered at every step of the way.
This final will be remembered for the spectacle of skill and brutality, but it also showed the importance of patience and leadership. Now that teams go back to their home base to prepare for the bilateral series and a new ICC calendar; this edition will be remembered for the sheer quality offered, the intensity displayed, and the superb finish beneath the desert lights.
